Mayo, Ireland – April 30, 2021 – Squid Monkey Studios launches their dungeon crawler survival game, THE CARETAKER. Set in the modern day, players must survive the aftermath of a sabotaged Research Power Facility which horribly mutates the inhabitants of a small city. Exploring human ignorance, regret and pride, The Caretaker unveils its plot through the lives of fallen victims and the encounters of failed experimentation.

“I’ve always loved the Survival Horror Genre, but most games are in third or first person. I wanted to experience the same thrill from a new point of view. I played with the idea of blending it with a top-down style of gameplay and found that the blend was received rather well. The narrative was inspired from exaggerating heavily on my own personal experiences. I really wanted to tell a story that showed the cause and affect of someone’s arrogance and ambition.”

At launch players will try to escape the small city of Red Chapel, a city in waste from an unknown disaster. Players will have to fight their way through roaming gangs of hideous creatures waiting to devour anything still breathing. Escaping depends on how well you explore and how well you manage what you can find. Uncover hidden items to be used on obstacles and decipher interactive puzzles to find their way out.
