Summoners War World Arena Championship 2019, held by mobile game company Com2uS and presented by Google Play, has ended successfully with its best performing finale ever.
The finals reached 1,250,000 unique viewers during the broadcast and 2 million within 24 hours via YouTube, increasing viewership 10 times since last year
On October 26th the SWC 2019 World Finals took place in Maison de la Mutualité in Paris, France. Filling the venue were 1,500 spectators from France and Europe ready to enjoy the tournament, meet players and casters and experience the biggest and most important Summoners War event of the year up close. The Chinese player L’EST eventually won the tournament and took home not just the title of Best Summoner 2019, but $100,000 USD in prize money.
Record viewership numbers
By reaching 1.25 million views during the live broadcast – 10 times the cumulative views from last year – Summoners War underlined its global popularity and the evolvement of mobile eSports.
The broadcasting video on the official Summoners War Esports YouTube channel reached nearly 2 million views within 24 hours after the tournament. The YouTube broadcast in French gained over 1 million views, demonstrating once again the high popularity and demand from local fans.
The World Finals were broadcast in 15 different languages via YouTube and Twitch, which included commentaries from on-site casters in English, French, German, Russian, Italian, Korean and Japanese.
Fierce battles and unexpected results
This year’s SWC was more intense than ever. A total prize pool of $210,000 USD for the World Finals and regional cups meant the eight finalists selected from the Americas Cup, European Cup and Asia-Pacific Cup showed a number of unexpected and exciting strategies.
DILIGENT, the Asia-Pacific Cup winner and this year’s front runner, as well as LAMA, last year’s runner-up shocked the audience by dropping out in the quarterfinals. Meanwhile ROSITH, a French underdog who received a massive amount of support from the audience reached the semi-finals.
In the final match American player THOMPSIN and Chinese player L’EST faced off. The match was intense, after a fierce battle L’EST grabbed the trophy and won the $100,000 USD prize money.
