Modern Times Group MTG AB’s (MTG) today announces a VC Fund investment of USD 250,000 in Mightier Games (Mightier), a Boston-based video games program exploring how games can help children ranging in ages from 6-14 with emotional regulation issues, diagnosed and undiagnosed ranging from ADHD to anxiety, anger and more.
Mightier games utilize a heart rate monitor to allow kids to can see what they are feeling in real time.
Three clinical trials conducted by Mightier in cooperation with Boston Children’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School showed that after just 12 weeks on Mightier’s platform children manage their emotions better and parents experience less stress.
“We could not be more proud to invest in a program with such admirable goals and the means and talent to make a real difference,” says Arnd Benninghoff, EVP Esport and Games at MTG. Mightier shows that gaming can make a true difference beyond the excitement, fun and emotional engagement that gaming and games bring and we’re excited to see them continue to grow and redefine what gaming means to many.”
On average families saw a 62% reduction in outbursts, a 40% reduction in oppositional behaviors, and a 19% reduction in parent stress. Parents can monitor their child’s progress via a parent portal and receive coaching from a clinical coach on their child’s development.
“MTG works with some of the best game developers in the world,” says Craig Lund Co-Founder and CEO of Mightier. "This partnership is a great opportunity to work with top developers to add more games to the Mightier platform to keep kids engaged and learning.”
“Having MTG as a partner means we'll be able to keep more kids having fun and learning emotional regulation. They're perfect partners,” says Dr. Jason Kahn, Chief Science Officer and original inventor of the gaming logic behind Mightier."
Mightier is a subscription based model that offers a 30 day free trial followed by plans beginning at $99 one time fee and an additional $19 per month ranging to $35 per month. To date, the current library has 25 games, including two recipients of the Apple Editors’ Choice award and two games with more than a million downloads. New games are added monthly. The company closed a $6.5 million Series A round in May 2019 bringing total company funding to more than $10.1 million.
