Northern Softworks’ unique ‘Drift Stick’ racer, ‘Inertial Drift’ has been chosen to feature on Dolby’s GDC booth this year to showcase the Dolby Atmos integration in the game.
Developer Michael O’Kane and sound designer, David Baxter, will be speaking on the Dolby booth (Moscone South, #1141) as part of the Dolby Atmos Speaker Series.
“The feature that sold me on Atmos support was the additional presence it gives your opponents. With positional audio you can hear exactly where the car behind you is, even without checking your mirrors. It really ups the pressure and makes you constantly aware of how close they are,” said Michael.
David Baxter from Boom Clap Play, who are creating the audio for the game, commented “By designing for Dolby Atmos we open up a whole new vertical layer in the soundscape. That allowed us to create distinct sonic landscapes around the track and immerse the player in the ambience. It really heightens the high octane feel of the game and was much easier to integrate than expected, even on an indie budget.”
As well as featuring on the Dolby Atmos booth, Northern Softworks will be showing the game at GDC Play (Moscone North #3039) where players will be able to master the ‘Drift Stick’ controls, and immerse themselves in thrilling, Dolby Atmos enhanced, racing. The game will also feature at the prestigious March 18th MIX event.
‘Inertial Drift’ is a one or local two player drift racer which uses Northern Softworks intuitive ‘drift stick’ mechanics to deliver complete drift mastery to players. Built with a sleek 90’s meets anime aesthetic and packed with 16 sportscars, the game will be coming to PC and console
