Global blockchain fund partners with cryptocurrency exchange business to invest in cryptocurrency companies
TOKYO, Japan – February 14, 2019 – gumi Cryptos LLC, an equity-method affiliate of gumi Inc., today announced that it received an investment from Japan-based Remixpoint, Inc. gumi Cryptos launched in 2018 with an initial investment of $30 million USD as a dedicated fund for investing in promising cryptocurrency and blockchain technology companies. The fund offers its portfolio companies a strategic venture capital investment partner with unique access to the Japan cryptocurrency market through its network of investors and management board.
Blockchain and cryptocurrency technology has been rapidly expanding into various industries globally, while services and products in the industry continue getting attention. While global companies are working on in-house research and development, blockchain and cryptocurrency funds, like gumi Cryptos, are making investments into startups to observe a strong capital inflow. Particularly, gumi Cryptos fills a specific void in the blockchain and cryptocurrency investment spectrum by enabling access and increasing an understanding of how the markets operate in Japan, including investment and industrial networks, customers, exchanges and regulators.
Hironao Kunimitsu, Founder and CEO of gumi Inc, said, “gumi Cryptos will collaborate with Remixpoint to obtain insights and knowledge of the services and products that are based on blockchain technology. Together, we will expand our reach and impact within the blockchain and cryptocurrency industries.”
Remixpoint also operates its subsidiary, BITPoint Japan Co., a cryptocurrency exchange business. As the cryptocurrency industry is becoming more globalized and mature, the group intends to expand the existing business stably while diversifying the revenue base.
Genki Oda, Representative Director and Chairman CEO of Remixpoint, Inc. said, “We are pleased to announce our partnership with gumi Cryptos, which has strong and deep connections in the US community as well as a thorough understanding of both US and Japan markets. We believe it is the perfect timing to start investing from this point in the market environment and investment profitability, and we’re confident that working with gumi Cryptos enables us to deepen our involvement and collaborations with innovative startups and contribute to the growth of the industry.”
gumi Cryptos is led by proven operators Hironao Kunimitsu, Founder and CEO of gumi Inc., and Miko Matsumura, founder of US-based virtual currency exchange Evercoin. The first projects funded by gumi Cryptos include Spacemesh, Origin Protocol, Robot Cache and Wificoin.
