The Colombian development studios participating in Gamescom are Timba Games, which earned its reputation in 2017 with Puppet Kings, a struggle for power between kings and titans; Blazing Soft, with an eminently educational approach, which laid the foundation to develop “Play to learn” or “Paul, the whale”; On3dStudios (Quantum Replica); C2 Games Studios (Project Cloudwitch, Penalty Shotout); and G.A.D.S. Game Art & Design (projects for Nickelodeon, RTVC Colombia, Viacom).
Colombia became a benchmark developer. Colombia has an established development business network synchronized with the orange economy, renowned for its high competitiveness in costs, innovation capability, and flexibility, which makes a difference in Latin America’s offer. The sector has been steadily growing since 2002, driven by “Colombia, Bring It On,” a strategy developed by ProColombia and the Ministry of Information Technologies and Communications (MINTIC) to internationalize the 4.0 Industries.
According to Global Games Market 2017, the Colombian video game market is the fourth largest in Latin America, amassing sales of USD $291 million in 2017. This effectively positions Colombia as a world class player in terms of video game consumption.
To date, there are around 50 development studios, concentrated in Bogota, Medellin, Cali, Pereira, Manizales, Armenia and, Bucaramanga; with approximately 70 export video games on platforms such as Windows, Android, iOS, Playstation, and Xbox. The most renowned are Moana, Papo y yo, Monster Madness, Cellfactor, Vampire Season, Gravity and Write it VS.
