Google could lose at least $50M this year from Epic Games’ decision to bypass the Play store for its Fortnite game, according to a new report

Fortnite game  could lose Google at least $50M this year from Epic Games’ decision to bypass the Play store for its Fortnite game, according to a new report from app intelligence firm Sensor Tower.

Epic bypassed the store in favor of having players download directly from its own website.

Sensor Tower says Fortnite game has earned Apple  over $54M thanks to the tech giant’s 30% cut of in-app spending.

Apple only allows app downloads from its store, while Google has a more open platform. But Android users are more exposed to security risks when circumventing the official channel.

Players with Samsung Galaxy devices are the first to be invited, starting today. Additionally, purchasers of the new Samsung Note 9 or Galaxy Tab S4  will get access to the new Galaxy outfit. More details can be found here.

Epic will start rolling out beta access to players on other Android devices over the next few days. Players that are interested can sign up to be invited at Fortnite.com/Android.

Fortnite will be available for direct download via Fortnite.com. Fortnite will not be available through the Google Play Store.

Fortnite on Android supports full Cross Play and Cross Progression with PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Switch, PC, Mac, and iOS.
