Daimler, Bosch to test robo-taxi program in California using Nvidia system
Germany's Daimler and Bosch unveil a plan to deploy self-driving taxis in California's Silicon Valley region next year as part of a test program of fully automated vehicles designed for city driving.
The companies say the pilot project will demonstrate how mobility services such as car sharing, ride-hailing and multi-modal platforms can be intelligently connected to shape the future of mobility.
Nvidia s selected as the supplier of the artificial intelligence platform for the program, using the DRIVE Pegasus system.
"The advantages that Nvidia has in graphics-chip development, and the subsequent leadership in AI processing, gives it a jumpstart that no other company can match," praises AI analyst Ryan Shrout.
German automaker Daimler AG and auto provider Bosch Corp [ROBSCJ.UL] will convey self-driving cabs in California's Silicon Valley area one year from now as a component of a test program of vehicles intended for city driving, the two organizations said on Tuesday.
The world's biggest producer of premium autos and greatest car provider gave few insights about their robo-taxi program, portrayed as a traveler carry benefit, and did not uncover which city would have it. Arrangements with the district inside the sprawling innovation center point of Silicon Valley were as yet in progress, they said on a phone call with writers.
Worldwide automakers, providers and tech organizations like Alphabet's Waymo and Uber [UBER.UL] are emptying assets into the improvement of independent driving frameworks and propelling systems of test armadas around the world went for driving the innovation forward.
The to a great degree complex difficulties of self-driving, and the cost of innovative work, has prompted a large group of associations between automakers, providers and others.
Bosch and Daimler, with its traveler auto mark Mercedes-Benz, first united in a self-driving partnership in April 2017, with groups from the two organizations cooperating in Stuttgart and Silicon Valley.
Officials from the organizations would not remark on the potential size of the experimental run program, nor what number of vehicles would be utilized, nor clients served. In spite of the fact that California would be the primary pilot site, others could tail, they said.
