Largest Female Surfing Event in the World Features Six-Time World Champion Stephanie Gilmore, Three-Time World Champion Carissa Moore, #1 Ranked Lakey Peterson, and Defending Champ Courtney Conlogue, Headlining the Field of More Than 100 Top Pros
OCEANSIDE, Calif., July 5, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- ASA Entertainment announced today that the World Surf League (WSL) QS6000 Paul Mitchell Supergirl Pro will celebrate its 12th year at the Oceanside Pier in Oceanside, Calif., July 27-29, 2018. The nationally televised event is the largest female surf contest in the world, with more than 100 of the planet's top pros expected to compete. Admission to the event is free.
The Paul Mitchell Supergirl Pro will serve as the only major all-women's WSL qualifying event in the US, and plays a critical role for surfers looking to solidify their position on the 2019 WSL Women's World Championship Tour (WCT)
Some of the world-class surfers registered to compete include 6-time World Champion Stephanie Gilmore, 3-time World Champion Carissa Moore, #1 ranked Lakey Peterson, #3 ranked Tatiana Weston-Webb, #5 ranked Johanne Defay, 2013 champ Malia Manuel, two-time champion Sage Erickson, rookie sensation Caroline Marks, three-time Champion, Coco Ho, star surfer Alana Blanchard, and defending champion Courtney Conlogue.
"All of the women are so excited about this event," said Sage Erickson, one of the world's top surfers and a two-time Supergirl Pro champion. "It's so awesome to have a contest like this in the U.S. that focuses entirely on women's surfing. The whole festival around the event gets bigger each year, and the crowds are huge. It's amazing to see how many incredible things are going on at the event beyond women's surfing that all speak to the female empowerment theme. It's my favorite event of the year!"
In addition to the best surfing in the world, the event features an action-packed Festival Village with 20 live concerts, the only female-driven multi-title esports tournament in the U.S., an all-female DJ contest, a women's skateboarding competition, fitness and dance classes, art, yoga, speakers, autographs, hair styling, a Celebrity Surf Invitational, 40 vendor booths, and many other activities.
The complete entertainment and music lineup will be announced shortly.
"We are really pleased about the expansion of the event both in and out of the water," said Rick Bratman, CEO of ASA Entertainment, the event's management company. "Each year we look to include elements that will not only add to the festival's experience, but will also further the mission of providing opportunities for women in areas where they are traditionally under-represented. It is incredibly gratifying to have watched it become the largest female surf contest in WSL history, and we're proud to have provided a platform for important causes such as sustainability, breast cancer awareness and female empowerment."
The event will run daily from July 27 through July 29, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Access to the surfing, concerts, esports, classes and all elements are free to attend.
