Video game sales rise 18% in April with broad gains as Sony scores
Video game sales came back to year-over-year development in April, with twofold digit picks up in all classes to prompt a general 18% expansion in spending.
Deals came to $823M general versus a year-back $699M in a regularly frail month, as per NPD Group. Equipment deals grew 15% to $225M. Programming deals rose 13% to $359M, while embellishments deals bounced 28% to $240M.
Equipment is up 14% YTD to $1.2B. PlayStation 4 was the top rated support stage for the month and remained so YTD; the unit produced the best April reassure deals in 10 years (best unit deals since the Nintendo Wii in April 2009, and best dollar deals since the Wii in April 2008, expert Mat Piscatella notes).
The best spot introduction of God of War on the product diagram made sony April’s best offering distributer also. On the dollar deals diagram, God of War beat out Far Cry 5 , MLB 18: The Show (SNE), Labo Variety Kit and Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze.
