Trump: Informant In Campaign Would Be "All Time Biggest Political Scandal"
President Donald Trump has repeatedly criticized the media but has latched on to reports suggesting a government informant was implanted within his presidential campaign.
In a post on Twitter on Friday, Trump argued that it would be the "all time biggest political scandal" if the reports about the informant are true.
"It took place very early on, and long before the phony Russia Hoax became a 'hot' Fake News story," he added. "If true - all time biggest political scandal!"
The tweet from the president comes two days after a report from the New York Times citing current and former officials said at least one government informant met several times with Trump campaign aides Carter Page and George Papadopoulos.
Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, who is currently serving as one of Trump's lawyers in the investigation of Russian meddling it the 2016 election, also mentioned the reports in an interview on CNN's "New Day" on Friday.
"Here's the issue that I really feel strongly about with this informant, if there is one. First of all, I don't know for sure, nor does the President, if there really was. We're told that," Giuliani said.
