Greenie 18.04 desktop Release
What Greenie provides?
1. A good system for various uses - Internet, office, games ...
2. Specific applications such as hardware testing or data saving
3. A pleasant environment that the user may not study
4. Language translations, codecs, programs requested in Slovakia, The Czech Republic or Poland, for example
. 5. Long-term support. Greenie is based on the LTS release of Ubuntu
Significant change compared to 16.04
Greenie 18.04 is a very different edition since 16.04. A short description of the differences is in a simple table:
|Greenie 16.04||Greenie 18.04||comment|
|Based on Lubunt||Based on Ubuntu MATE||The change of environment has brought new releases of Greenie to the original versions with Gnome 2. MATE is a much more complete environment than LXDE.|
|x86 architecture||x86_64 architecture||The transition from a 32 to 64-bit system is a must. 32bit systems are being used less and less often, because 64bit systems are currently being sold at even lower prices.|
|for older PCs||for regular PCs||As mentioned above, fewer people use a 32-bit system. Who needs something on really old computers can choose some specially designed system.|
|SK a CZ||SK, CZ a PL||Greenie has more users in Poland than in Hungary. However, it is a more similar language. Adding Polish is not a problem and I hope it will help someone.|
|Desktop a lite||Other desktops||The Lite version with a minimal amount of software is good, but as the system packages are still inflating, less and less software changes on the CD. Until it was over, it made sense.|
Is it Greenie or Ubuntu MATE?
Greenie is based on Ubuntu, specifically on the Ubuntu MATE editions. I have the idea that some special thing to hide it is stupid and useless. The task of Greenie is to bring a well-set system, not to mention all the lyrics and logos to make it look as different as possible. The team around Ubuntu MATE has created a good selection of programs, a gorgeous graphic theme, and a good overall set up that made it hard work with editing. Of course, for some things, I have a different view, and what is needed for users on the opposite side of the world may be unnecessary for people in Central Europe. I think the transition from Lubunto to Ubuntu MATE is a good step and Greenie 18.04 is closer to Ubuntu MATE 18.04, as did Greenie 16.04 to Lubunto 16.04.
Unlike Ubuntu MATE, there are several changes to programs, including games, Google Chrome, GIMP, Synaptic (which I think should be included in the release),) several Internet tools and utilities. The default music player is Clementine.
Announcement (in Slovak):
The new version of the Greenie operating system is here. Greenie 18.04 is based on Ubuntu MATE 18.04 LTS. Included are the kernel 4.15, LibreOffice 6, GIMP 2.10, MATE 1.20 and more. A good selection of programs will allow beginners to use the system to the full. It includes the OpenTTD game (including expansion packs), terminal tools and aliases, add-on fonts, or preinstalled WINE. Unlike Ubuntu MATE, the system is significantly cleaned by language packs, fonts, or documentation in languages that the user does not use in Slovakia, the Czech Republic or Poland.
